The Societal Effects of Artistic Expression

Summer 2018

This brief essay was written as part of my final for Deanna Pindell's Art History class at Olympic College, which focused on artworks all over the world from the Medieval to Renaissance Periods. The piece discusses the different contexts in which three famous artworks (pictured below) exist, and how they might have impacted the society into which they were born.

Krishna and the Gopis

Gita Govinda Manuscript, c. 1525-1550

The Birth of Venus

Alexandre Cabanel, 1863

Crucifixion Triptych with Donors and Saints

Rogier van der Weyden, c. 1440
